XMatrix is a publication about the things a person usually inherits rather than chooses: an identity, a set of beliefs, a way of perceiving, a sense of what is serious and what is embarrassing. Most of that arrived before there was anyone present to consent to it.
This is not a self-improvement project. Nothing here is offered as a technique for becoming calmer, more productive or more spiritual. The enquiry is narrower and, we think, more useful: what is actually the case, when the story about it is set aside long enough to look?
Who this is for
For people who have noticed something does not add up, and who would rather sit with that than resolve it quickly. For those who left a religion and found the same machinery running under the new position. For anyone who suspects that the confident voice in their head was installed rather than earned.
It is not written for people looking for reassurance. Several pieces here will be uncomfortable, and that discomfort is not incidental to the method.
What we publish
Long-form essays and deep dives that follow one question properly; short reads for a single idea; reflections, which are shorter still; and quotes, which are here for testing against your own observation rather than for agreement.

Nothing is beyond question
Not religion, not science, not the positions held here. A claim that cannot be examined is not being protected — it is being hidden.
Description before prescription
Most writing in this territory rushes to tell you what to do. We would rather describe accurately what is happening, and let the doing follow from seeing.
No gurus, no lineage, no membership
There is nothing to join and no one to defer to. If something written here is true, it will survive your testing it. If it does not, discard it.
Plain language
Sanskrit terms, capitalised abstractions and borrowed mystique usually conceal a thought rather than convey one. Where an ordinary word will do, it is used.
